Iris Regina Isabella Schatt-Schneider, Freiherr von Stein, born in Wien (Vienna/Austria), is the daughter of an Estonian father and an Austrian mother. She was trained as a ballet dancer at Vienna State Opera and was for many years a member of the Vienna Volksopera where she received singing and acting education. With the Opera she went on many tours in Europe, USA and Japan. In 1975 she commenced working on art in her own studio, mainly sketches and oilpaintings. Her artistic work thereafter concentrates increasingly on working with clay. Gradually she also starts working on figurative water colour paintings devoted to the movement of the female body. The artist emphasizes that the single objects are "one-off" emerging spontaneously from a specific intuition, demanding uninterrupted work through on the art object until completion, because interruption would otherwise break with the sentiment. Connoisseurs in Europe have thus remarked her figures that are formed in a highly sensitive manner.
